East Hill Singers |
|||||
The East Hill Singers is a chorus comprised of inmates from Lansing Correctional Facility and volunteer singers from the community. The chorus gets its name from the East Unit at Lansing, which is the minimum security unit. The East Hill Singers is known for its full sound, and for presenting innovative programs with plenty of entertainment value. The chorus presents four concerts per year outside the prison walls. Concerts are presented at various locations in the Kansas City and Topeka areas. The programs presented by the East Hill Singers consist of great classical and popular choral music, as well as entertaining narrations by the inmates.

The inmate singers who participate in the East Hill Singers are housed in East Unit, the minimum security unit of the state prison at Lansing, KS. Some may have had musical experience in the past, but most have never sung before. Rehearsals begin months before each scheduled performance. Working with chorus founder, Elvera Voth, the inmates learn not only to sing, but to perform complex choral pieces. |
