Morpheus Project

Helping youth offenders and at-risk youth modify behavior through the arts.

Giving Shape to Dreams

Morpheus is the Greek god of dreams. He sends images of humans in dreams or visions, and is responsible for shaping dreams, or givng shape to the beings which inhabit dreams.

With creative techniques as a catalyst for modification, participants identify their dreams, goals, and identify and execute avenues of achievement, giving shape to the reality of success.

The Morpheus Project

A Youth Development program that promotes productivity, positive outlook and a sense of community through encouraging participants to discover, value, and use their innate talents and individual interests.

This program leads participants through a series of visual and performing arts projects designed to culminate in an original production.

AiP Program Director, Actor and Teaching Artist, Heidi Stubblefield designed this program with the emphasis on the youth telling their story.  While promoting conflict resolution through non violent means, as well as self confidence in performance presentation, participants are encouraged to create original monologues and dialogues that are crafted together for a public performance.

The Morpheus Project is designed to:

  • improve social behavior and social skills
  • use the arts to teach life skills
  • to develop skills in the visual and performing arts
  • to provide opportunities for artistic performances and exhibitions
  • provide youth a sense of accomplishment, thus increasing their self-esteem

Arts programs for adjudicated youth have been proven to:

  • Significantly decrease anger, depression/anxiety, and somatic problems for both boys and girl
  • Reduce levels of violence while institutionalized thereby making facilities safer for both staff and wards.
  • Enhance empowerment and goal setting.
