DAY OF ACTION |
|
||||
Everybody can be great... because anybody can serve…You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love. Arts in Prison marks this Day of Action by celebrating you – our volunteers. Click the link below to tell us your story. What is the difference that volunteering makes in your life and in the lives of the inmates you work with? Click here to read and share AiP volunteers give hundreds of hours each year sharing their talents with men, women and youth incarcerated and detained in Kansas. Members of our Board of Directors give their time and talents steering Arts in Prison forward to a bold future. Our teaching volunteers make a difference each week in helping inmates discover hidden potential and positive self perception. Exhibit and office volunteers help us share stories of the redemptive power of the arts. After receiving an orientation to AiP and the facility, instructors give one night a week to lead classes in art forms as diverse as music, theatre, writing, drama, painting, ceramics, speech and gardening. Class sessions typically run for 10 weeks. These classes produce visual art pieces and writings that are shared with the general public through AiP exhibits and The Quarterly, or in performances shared within the facility. Each class is structured according to the interests and talents of the instructor. AiP staff can assist interested volunteers with developing a program that meets the requirements of the facility and best utilizes the talents of the artist. Contact Heidis@artsinprison.org if you are interested in discussing how you could motivate positive change with Arts in Prison. If you would like to volunteer in a capacity other than instructor, please contact leighl@artsinprison.org. |
